Secular Carmelites follow the example of Mary, who "kept the words of the Lord and pondered them in her heart" in her life in the world and her everyday duties.
The Order of Carmel strengthens the spiritual life of its members. Secular Carmelites make a commitment to live the Gospel and practice contemplative prayer. Members give daily witness to "an integrated approach to life that is fully brought about by the inspiration and strength of the Gospel" (Christifideles Laici).
